The Tale Behind the Tune
The Song, Bare Bones
I wrote this song because I love this place. It’s where I learned to two-step and waltz. It’s where I taught my wife and daughters to do the same. I never met Hoyle, but when I get to heaven, I plan to thank him for his contribution to the fabric of life in Big Spring, Texas and beyond. Hoyle’s son Jody is one of my heroes. We go to church together most every Sunday, and I get out to the Stampede a few times a year to enjoy what he does and has been doing so well for 50+ years.
The Finished Recording
After the song was written, Jason Wyatt and his crew at We The People Productions helped turn “Stampede Tonight” into a full-band recording. What you hear on this track started as a simple guitar/vocal version and became a finished record in about two hours.
